The Story:
Original factory options: Tinted glass, heated rear window, heated outside mirror, rear window wiper (no longer there) electric sunroof (working). Also fitted is the optional aluminium rear muffler skirt. This car has received a recent complete body restoration incl. full respray to the factory Albert Blue #1818 colour. Porsche delivery records list no actual paint code and we suspect it was a custom colour close to Aubergine. There was no paint code plaque on the passenger door pillar. The interior is black and has optional Recaro sports seats in excellent condition. The electric sunroof, whilst noisy, still works as do all other electrics (except the clock! ) The body has been fitted with factory steel RS rear quarter panels and the car has both a set of original Fuchs 6" & 7" forged alloys plus a replica set of 7 & 8" alloys. An original "S" front spoiler (in steel) has also been fitted - (which I believe was an option on the E at the time). Engine is stock and very strong having had a complete rebuild by the authorised South Australian Porsche dealer in the last 90's with a complete injector pump rebuild in 2001. The exhaust is full stainless steel. Clutch and pressure plate are new and gearbox had new synchros installed in past 2 years. Gear change was all rebushed and is pleasingly positive in gear selection compared to some of the recent cars I have driven. The previous owner was fastidious in this restoration project and only relinquished this car because he acquired a '73 "S" set up for competition which suited his penchant for classic racing (having campaigned Group "N" Mustangs and Cortinas). We believe the car was exported to Australia after only a few years in the UK where it was originally delivered. It appears to have spent most of its life in Adelaide, South Australia and the body is extremely rust free due to the very dry environment here in Australia. The car is very tight and a joy to drive, everything works (bar the clock) and is probably as close to the epitome of Porsche ownership that I will hope to achieve. Whilst it has the RS rear fenders, I would not attempt to make it into an RS clone; I just like the hint of the RS that this shape alludes to. No doubt some purists will complain. Who cares, I've got my "E" and I'm gonna enjoy it !
